After trendy little 1770 (adjacent to trendy surf town Agnes Waters), we went south to Hervey Bay. Our main goal here was to experience the tranquility and purity of Fraser Island. Well we failed on both counts!! Hard to feel tranquil on a massive 4wd BUS that bumped its way over the sand dunes of Fraser. May have been something to do with the fact the kids made a dash for the back row...bumpy row more like it. Hugely fun, a bit hair-raising in parts, and amazing scenery. Our bus trashed itself in the last hour of the trip...but they had a back-up...a bus with even less suspension. The lack of purity I mentioned was not the lack of natural beauty, but the fact we shared it with about a hundred other 4WD maniacs...oops I mean 4WD enthusiasts.
In saying this, the tour was great (if we did the 4WD thing ourselves we would have joined the many we saw getting bogged every km or so). Fraser Island is gorgeous, especially Lake McKenzie, which is stunning - and we wished we could have stayed there longer.
Next stop for a few days was going to be Noosa, but we weren't up to that sort of busy, so we ended up at the quieter Coolum. Caravan Park right on the beach, the view from our camper trailer was the crashing surf (and the surfers!)..oh and a pair of whales. The kids spent most of the time watching the surf contest or Little Nippers...Amber wanting to do both when she gets home. Made the obligatory visit to Australia Zoo, which was commercially over-the-top, but still fascinating. Saw a tiger nearly attack his keeper (or was that part of the show???)
Brisbane was a lovely relaxing stop, catching up with old Fairstar friend Naomi and her young family. The kids all got along, and Alex glued himself to Foxtel ...the first TV he has seen in 5 weeks. Nice to sleep in a real bed in a real house with a family in real life routines (nah don't miss those school mornings!) Our fave thing to do here was a visit to Redcliffe - and an amazing swimming spot called Settlement Cove. A must see in Brisvegas I believe.
Gold Coast has been our most recent few days, and what a whirlwind few days they have been! Seaworld was brilliant...something for all ages. Those clever dolphins and polar bear! The waterslides gave the kids a taste for the following day...today's trip to Wet n' Wild. Another screamer of a day so to speak. Voted a 10 out of 10 by the kids. Needless to say the kids are all snoring their heads off as I type.
Tonight we have pulled into Byron Bay, our last major stop. Peter and I found a beachside block to buy...for a lazy 4.9 million. We just love the vibe here. If we don't come back, this is where you'll find us!!

Hi guys, you sound like you are having the most amazing time, so many wonderful experiences! We are back from Adelaide, which was nice despite the miserable weather most of the week. I won't tell you about our beautiful accommodation with king size bed, plasma TV and full marble bath which I organised cheap through a mum from mother's group who gets a discount! I think Zoe is enjoying being back at home though where there is surprisingly more room than the motel room (yes even in our little house!). If we win lotto this weekend we might help chip in towards the block of land that you are eyeing off in Byron! Ridiculous prices indeed. Hi Gypsies! Hope Amber has has a wonderful birthday - one to remember I'm sure. We are hoping to see you before we head off to Coolum Beach for our holiday so we can hear first hand of the many adventures. What a great time for you all!! Lovely relaxed photos...We have just had the "wake" for our neighbour Joyce here (she died unexpectedly and left a lot of neighbours in shock). And it was nice to catch up with other street people for drinks and nibbles and memories of Joyce...it was her 62nd birthday. Also it's Fiona's birthday today but she has been working night shift so is probably sleeping.I've been working a fair bit too - all the more pocket money for Qld!!!
