This will have to be a two-part blog, as we need to catch up (thanks Jac for the hint...).
Part 1. After Winton we travelled a long boring road to Sapphire, a funny little town famous for its...sapphires!! The town has mine tunnels all over the place, and many retirees or gamblers who have purchased a plot to fossick or mine. This tour detour was really my special interest, but I managed to get the rest of the family hooked as well. We did a mine tour with a very bossy old bag, but she taught us how to fossick for the sapphires. We found a few little ones in the bucket we bought, enough to make us want to search for more. So, we went to another place, "Willy's Wash" (yes no kidding), and BINGO...we struck it rich...well not quite enough to retire on (yet again), but fun anyway. So addicted we are, we bought two more bucketloads of rocks to "take-away"...hmmm the poor Kia is getting a workout. If we never come back it's because there was a whopper sapphire amongst the rubble!!!
Part 2. On the way to Rockhampton, we stopped over at Mt. Hay to fossick (YES!!!) for thundereggs. Probably not our brightest idea as it was close to 36 in the shade, and we were fossicking on top of an old volcano full of hot white rocks! Yes we did find some, and they cut them in half for us. Sienna got the prettiest find. After a brief stay in Rocky, we travelled to where we are now...the gorgeous 1770. Not far from Gladstone on the map if u want to check it out. Today we had an AWESOME DAY...one of the best things we have done .... a Great Barrier Reef Cruise. Words can't describe how amazing we all felt snorkelling in the reef. Even our little 3 year-old Sienna snorkelled!! Our kids will treasure today forever.

ReplyDeleteWOW what a great update Jus & gang, it all just sounds so fantastic it must be hard to decide what to write to us all! Frank would love to be up there with you all fossicking I bet. I'm so pleased to hear that the Great Barriet Reef cruise was unreal, did you happen to see Nemo? Zoe has been reading Nemo recently (as well as walking LOTS!). We head off to Adelaide this Friday so may not be able to blog for about a week unfortunately, but I'll see whether we can access internet in a shopping centre etc. I'll need to get my fix of the updates! Aaron hired a Dingo (not the dog type that you guys are used too seeing) but the bobcat/tractor type and has completely guttered the frontyard - despite the rain that was bucketing down in Geelong today.

What fun to fossick - Jac Collis will be very envious when she reads your blog being a devotee of scratching through rubble. You all sound very happy and will no doubt be planning the next trip asap......oh...of course there's work and school to attend to eventually!!All well here. Weather iffy each day - the four seasons in one day stuff. ReplyDeleteHi guys! Loving the journey - I just close my eyes and imagine we're there too...you're missing some pretty chilly weather down here. Thanks for the ULURU post-card - Annabelle was so excited when she checked the mail - she came running in with it and left all the other mail in the box! Brenton has lost his first tooth and cried when the tooth fairy only gave him one goldy - "Ït must have been too rotten!" he said. Cheekly little mite!

At school we are doing experiments.
We are using balloons, jelly and chocolate frogs, cooking popcorn, making crystals and melting things.I WISH YOU WERE HERE!!!!!
On our holiday we went to NSW. We went to Wagga Wagga, Parkes, Dubbo, The Warrumbungles, Byron Bay and Bundjajung National Park.
At Dubbo we went to the zoo, I liked the Apes the best. At Parkes we looked at the big Dish. At the Warrumbungles I walked up 1000 steps and saw a baby emu. We stayed at a macadamia farm. There was a dog named Sash and I liked playing with her. We got to handle green tree frogs. They are slimy and stick to you.
At the beach we looked in rock pools, swam in the waves, saw some whales and rode our bikes.
I hope your holiday is going well.
