The other night we had our most beautiful campsite...right within the surreal Devils Marbles. Dreamtime legends say they are the fossilized eggs of the rainbow serpent. We all spent ages climbing all over them and exploring these amazing rocks. My fave campsite so far, despite no facilities and virtually free. Barely anyone there, and kids gathered wood for our campfire. Marshmallows yum! Our clothes are now not just dirty with red dust, but stink of smoke too...shall need to toss them out when we get home!! The next morning Peter woke early to see the sunrise and took a million photos! It was some sort of spiritual experience for him I think!
Next stop was slightly dodgy Tennant Creek, redeemed by the Cultural Centre and the Mine where we found heaps of gold!! Truly!!! Not enough to retire on however...back to work in a few weeks still....
Well we have given the Kia a good workout the last few days. After gladly leaving Tennant Creek (T.C. as we call it), we hit the boring Barkly Highway. Not much to see, so kids starting to do a bit of Maths work (Phew...guilt fading). Mt Isa was a little better than T.C., but kids highlight was "The Buffs Club" dinner with kids club. Not very culturally-expanding, but a bloody good feed!!!
Today we left Mt Isa, stopped for a beer and lemonade in Walkabout Creek Pub (of Croc Dundee fame), then arrived in Winton. We plan to spend 2 nights in this home of the Waltzing Matilda, and dinosaur region.
Still travelling beautifully....our ecclectic range of music is worth listing:

Hi again Gypsies! You shouldn't think about the reality of going back to work - it will spoil your enjoyment of the next weeks of your wonderful holiday. All going well here. We have Diddie here for a few days while Paul takes part in Country Week Golf. The Jenners are getting back to routines after their germy experiences - me too. Minio is busy at the G's where Mr Rudd was a guest at dinner but had to leave early due to the Tsunami and earthquake disasters in the islands. Warmish here again and Rocca is responding to the spring and is very noisy calling to all the other chicks outside his window - we think he's in love with a little cute blue wren! Haven't seen Nat for awhile as I'm staying away till I'm sure the gastro bug has gone. Minio fixed your front doors so there are two lots of new keys to pick up. Lots of mail - nothing of importance and I've paid two bills. Keep on relishing the moment while you can - Love to all - Nanna XXxxxx

Hi everyone, its great to hear more about your adventures. I can only imagine what state your clothes must be in by now, but that's all part of the wonderful experience you guys are having. The beard on Peter reminds me of when he returned from overseas all those years ago, I had to look twice when he came through customs!
ReplyDeleteWe have booked a holiday to Adelaide, leaving next Friday. Az starts his annual leave today (2 weeks). We have his cousin Natalie's wedding tomorrow (yes on my birthday!) Well at least I can enjoy a few drinks and dinner at someone else's expense!!
Zoe is continuing to practice her walking technique, currently looking like Frankenstein with her movements, but I guess that will improve.
Margie and Frank are both well, and happy to hear that you are all enjoying yourselves.
